My ensuite mirrored cabinet was delivered today. Very pleased with it. Custom made by M&A Designer Kitchens & Shopfitting. Colour matched to my upper kitchen cupboards in Laminex Alabaster, cabinet was made in Polytec Melamine Alabaster Matt. Slightly lighter than the Laminex, but it’s in a different room, so won’t be noticeable. It’s very heavy! Comes in at H 76cm x W 110 cm x D 15cm. Can’t wait to see it on the wall. *grinz*

PD have been very busy today! So busy in fact, that I have to split this post to fit it all in. *grinz* Firstly, a delivery of wood for the house frame. There’s loads of it!

I logged onto PD 24/7 quickly this morning & was plesantly surprised to find a message from PD/CSC. She sent a quick note to let me know their permits officer will be back tomorrow & she’ll chase her up then for me. Awesome!

In our general email chit chat yesterday I mentioned I’ve been window shopping & PD/CSC picked up on this to flog Suite Deals to me. It’s on the list. The Richmond store is not too far from Ikea, which everyone keeps telling me to go to (friends, work mates, friendly bloggers). Again, on the list. Too many shops, not enough weekend, dammit! I supposed it doesn’t help that I like to sleep in. Have to get my lazy arse outta bed early this weekend. ;P

By the time lunch rolled around, I was online checking out Sheridan’s website – www.sheridan.com.au. I’ve picked out a few nice products for the stocktake sales. One of my co-workers said she picked up some really cheap Sheridan bed sets from Harris Scarfe in their end of financial year stocktake sales, and also for me to check out DFO as they usually have cheap Sheridan sets too. Another spot to add to my shop list.

Construction D028 – Pug Upper Inspection

Hot hot hot! And the weather was hot too. *grinz* Isn’t this supposed to be spring? After a short walk in the heat, the pug went through the usual routine of an inspection. What a lovely shady portico I will have. It conjures up images of Tori Amos’s Boys For Pele album cover where she’s sitting in a rocking chair with a shotgun, good old fashion USA country folk style. *giggles* I might have to dye my hair red again…

Here we have the entry to the laundry, with the bathroom toilet LHS. Yes, that laundry sliding door IS the wrong colour. It slides open right where the trough will be. Even I won’t fit through there!

But I will fit here, in the family room. Still no taps on these water pipes. Gosh I’m thirsty in this heat.

Here is an example of the metal strip installed as a brace for the bedroom 2 & family room wall. You can see bedroom 2’s window all installed, above BG.

Under the roof trusses for the kitchen, into the study & garage. The last of the day fades into the BG.

Here we can see the roof trusses along the hallway, through to the front entrance. Hrm, my fur matches the dining room sliding door!

The back fence is still to be capped. Slack!

I can’t believe they put in black! This doesn’t match my fur. Unless they were co-ordinating with my ears?

This freshwater pipe runs all the way along the southern side of your house, below the wall frames.

Jump! This sliding door gives me plenty of room to run through into the kitchen.

Rubbish! This needs a clean up. All the loose bits have blown into your water connection hole.

Construction D058 – Rain Delay

Rain, rain, rain. All day, pretty much. No work on site today, although someone did walk their muddy boots through my garage, down the hallway, and out the back. At least I scraped off the mud before entering! Or should that be clay mush? It’s like all the dirt & stones (& other crap) just sank right to the bottom & the clay floated up to the top. I’ve got some serious landscaping problems to solve! And talking about problems, I drafted a letter to the fencer rejecting the invoice, thanks to the help of my fellow co-worker. These things suck. But we grow & learn, eh?

Construction D024 – Roof Trusses & Beams Installed, & Deliveries

Huge post! I’ve split it into 2 to fit it all in. First up, and the most obvious when driving down the street, is the roof trusses have been installed. Woohoo! That was super fast. These guys move like lightning. The Gainsborough door frames have been put in. The 3rd & 4th portico beams are up. More flat wood panels have been nailed in. Deliveries for the Zincalume gutters are on site. More in the next post!

Portico beams are all installed. They’ve also fixed the LHS beam to be screwed onto the slab, however the beam looks slightly twisted.

Slim Profiles. What’s that all about?

Aluminium bifolding doors have slimmer profiles than pvc doors.

Metal is a stronger material than plastic therefore less of it is required to support the double-glazed unit that is the centrepiece of your bifolding door panel.

The top image illustrates the profiles of a 4-panel bifolding door system from SunSeeker Doors compared with the equivalent pvc profiles in the picture beneath it.

In addition to the obvious benefits when the doors are closed (see previous blog post), this means that the profile (the edge of the door panel that can be seen when the doors are open) is narrower, typically 50mm compared with 75mm on the pvc doors we measured. The profile for a pair of doors is more than double because there needs to be a small gap (approx 15mm or so) between the hinged door panels.

Given that pvc profiles are, on average, 50% wider than SunSeeker Doors’ aluminium profiles, the difference increases proportionally with the number of doors. The space required by an open set of six pvc door panels is in the region of 50cm, 6 or 7 inches more than SunSeeker Doors.

New Doors Can Make Your Home Beautiful

If you are thinking of purchasing a new doors, the key is to decide how ready you’d like your doors to be before ordering them. By figuring out what state you want your interior doors to be in, you can easily figure out how hard it is going to be to install your new doors. Interior and exterior doors can be ordered in any number of ways; wooden doors can be ordered pre-assembled and this makes for easier installation.

Some other ways to order wood doors is partially assembled, knocked down and prehung, unmachined slab doors, fully or partially machined slabbed. You can also order your wood doors in a finished or pre-finished state as well. You can order any of these types of doors from Homestead Interior Doors; they have a large selection available at reasonable prices.

A wide majority of wood doors ordered today are in a pre-hung or assembled form. This may or may not be the best way to order your new doors. As was previously mentioned, you have to first determine which state you’d like your doors to arrive. If you are a do-it-yourself type of person then you won’t mind finishing and hanging the door yourself.

Fully assembled or pre-hung wood doors come with the jamb attached and the door stop applied, hinges installed and the lock prep completely finished and fastened to the hinges. When you order partially assembled wood doors, they are almost identical to fully assembled doors, only the hardware are shipped loosely with the door and not attached.

Knocked down, pre-hung doors have all of the machining and prep work done and the doors and jambs are are assembled, however, but the the jambs and hinges are not installed. With simple installation and a little work on your part, these doors can be assembled and hung in very little time.

Unfinished wood doors have no prep work done to the wood, they arrive bare and you can apply the stain or varnish and polyurethane coating yourself. A finished wood door arrives in with the staining and coating already finished and are ready to hang.
