Construction D052 – Wrong Mortar, Fencing, FHOG, Tax & Focus On Bathroom

What a shit of a day! Mortar. Gave PD/SS a quick call this morning to let him know about my rear MH neighbour’s lot & requested the bricks be shifted for their fence. I also noted that the mortar looked a bit dark, but maybe just wet? He said it will lighten up, but when I mentioned it is supposed to be off white, he said the brickies were doing it standard. He’d seen the empty bags on site & queried to make sure this was right. Advised, yes, I paid for the upgrade. He will need to check the documents & get back to me. In the mean time, I called PD/CSC & she confirmed my contract states off white mortar & this is what I paid for so they need to provide that. She said PD/SS is in the office atm so will catch up with him to sort out. PD/SS called back & confirmed the mortar in my bricks IS the wrong colour! Great… Now they have to pull down the wall & start again. The brickies have to finish off another job for 2 days, then they’ll pull down the wall by Monday to start all over again. PD/SS did say they are scheduled to finish by next Friday, so that is plus.
FHOG&B&B. I could see when I got home last night that the stamp on the first set of certified documents was very faint, so I dug out the originals & brought them into work today. I took copies & got them certified again (big thanks to our divisional boss who is authorised to certify doc’s). Scanned them off in an email to B/SMA this morning & asked her to confirm this new set of copies is acceptable. If so, I asked her to put an urgency on this with the grant office so that the money can be released and offset against my loan ASAP.
I received a reply 45 mins later & she said the scanned copies I sent through yesterday might be ok. WTF? Talk about stuff me around. They’ve only had these documents for months. *angry homer fist shaking* Well, at least if the first ones do get rejected again (why wouldn’t they?), she’s got the new fresh set ready to go. No excuses!
Not long later, B/SMA sent another email through to let me that town advised the grant is likely to be approved. Finally! She should know by the latest 11/12. I replied to let her know my fingers are crossed hoping that it comes through sooner rather than later, so I can reduce my loan’s interest. I also made it clear that every day counts, especially with the RBA raising their rate again. *grumble* She shot back a quick rely that she understands.
Fences. Stress! What to do about the height I’m not happy about but got stuck with? I pulled out my measuring tape & ran it over my side of the fence & found it’s only about 1.6m high from my soil height. I then measured the difference up to the RHS post & that comes to about 20cm, which is what would be the correct height for my side. I’d still prefer the 2m height, but if I can get it raised to at least the extra 20cm, that would be much better. I’ll need to look into this further before doing anything.
And to top off a crappy day, just to turn it all to shit, I received a nice fat bill from the tax office for payment by Christmas eve. Yeah, sure, I’ll just bend over & pull that cash right outta my…
Yes, onto the photos. Today’s are a bit scattered, to match my current state of life. Plus, focus on the electricals in the bathroom. Enjoy – if you made it this far. *grinz*
